What is really the case?

This is what a blurb to a news item in Sakaal on Tuesday, marshalling views of some elected representatives to TMC on the capital-based property tax, had to say in :


ठाण्यातील मालमत्ता कराला अजून महासभेने मान्यता दिलेली नाही. प्रशासनाने त्याचा प्रस्तावही तयार केलेला नाही. सूत्रही ठरवलेले नाही. अशा स्थितीत उगाचच चर्चा करून नागरिकांत धास्ती का निर्माण करायची, अशी भूमिका ठाण्यातील विविध नगरसेवकांनी सकाळशी बोलताना घेतली आहे. आम्ही जनतेला बांधील आहोत, त्यांच्या हिताचाच निर्णय घेऊ, असेही त्यांनी प्रशासनाला ठणकावून सांगितले आहे..

However, the same day, this blogger received an email from the Tax Assessor and Cllector, TMC Tax Department:


"The basic purpose of introducing (emphasis added) Capital Value based taxation system is not to hike taxes but to bring about transparency in taxation system by involving citizens participation through self assessment system.


"Help desks are formed at ward offices to help owners/citizens in filling the self-assessment forms. Similarly seminars / discussions conducted by Thane Municipal Corporation officers through NGOs, housing federations, Corporators help for filling the forms"


Which means it is not a mere proposal anymore.


But it is the corporators who deny it is a reality.

This needs to be sorted out because it is at present utter confusion.
